A man was hospitalized after a shooting involving a law enforcement officer from the Utah Department of Natural Resources during a traffic stop in Duchesne County. While on patrol in Duchesne City, the officer stopped a man whom county officers were seeking for erratic driving and another undisclosed reason. The incident occurred around 10 p.m., and shots were fired, although it is unclear if the injured man was armed or if there was an exchange of gunfire. The injured man, whose identity was not disclosed, was treated on the scene before being transported to a local hospital and then to a facility in the Salt Lake Valley. The officer involved was unharmed and has been placed on administrative leave while the shooting is investigated. Natural resources officers, who are fully certified police officers, patrol vast areas to protect Utah’s wildlife, trails, and waterways. The Division of Law Enforcement was created in January, bringing together officers from various department divisions to ensure the safety and conservation of Utah’s natural resources.
