Longtime Northern Utah football coach Erik Thompson was recently honored with induction into the Utah Sports Hall of Fame’s “Hall of Honor.” Thompson, a distinguished high school coach, spent many years coaching football in Northern Utah, including stints at Northridge High and Ogden High. His 79 wins at Northridge High are the most in school history, and he helped Ogden High end a 33-game losing streak in his first year as head coach.
Despite battling ALS in his final years of coaching, Thompson continued to lead with passion and dedication. He was also recently inducted into the Ogden High Hall of Fame, recognizing his impact on the school’s football program.
In addition to Thompson, public address announcer Jeff Reeves was also honored for his distinguished service, known for his iconic style of PA calls at various Utah sports venues.
The Utah Sports Hall of Fame’s next Hall of Fame induction will feature notable figures such as Weber State softball coach Mary Kay Amicone, John Buck, Wally Joyner, Stew Morrill, and Holly Rowe.
In addition to Thompson and Reeves, eight other individuals were also inducted into the Hall of Honor, including coaches Curtis Barney, Wendy Bills, Todd Jeffs, Mike Maxwell, Joe Pereira, and Barry Pitt, as well as sports contributors Dan C. Leonard and Wesley Ruff.
The Utah Sports Hall of Fame continues to recognize and honor individuals who have made significant contributions to the state’s sports community, celebrating their achievements and lasting impact.
