Doug Ruch, a Texas man diagnosed with terminal prostate cancer, is on a mission to volunteer in all 50 states before he passes away. With a prognosis of 12 to 18 months left to live, Ruch has shifted his focus from his career in the solar industry to helping others. Reflecting on his life, he realized he hadn’t done much volunteering in the past and is now determined to make a difference while he still can.
In the past few weeks, Ruch has already volunteered in ten states and will be in Utah this week to serve breakfast tacos to homeless youth at Volunteers of America in Salt Lake City. He hopes to leave a legacy through his mission, known as Dying to Serve, and inspire others to volunteer in their own communities. Those who wish to support Ruch’s mission can learn more at DyingToServe.com. Despite his terminal diagnosis, Ruch remains energetic and focused on making a positive impact before his time runs out.
