More than 100 people have died in India and Nepal due to unseasonably heavy rain since Wednesday. In Nepal, eight people died from lightning strikes and heavy rain. The weather office predicts more rain, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds in central and eastern India until Monday. India has experienced intense heat waves in past summer months, leading to fatalities. The IMD had forecasted a hotter April with above-normal temperatures across the country.
