2025 Governor’s State of Sport Awards Recognize Utah’s Elite Athletes


Park City’s Haley Batten and Winter Vinecki were recognized at the 13th Annual Governor’s State of Sport Awards in Utah. Batten was named professional female athlete of the year, while Vinecki was honored as Olympic female athlete of the year. The event, hosted by the Utah Sports Commission, celebrated the achievements of athletes and teams in Utah over the past year. Governor Spencer J. Cox highlighted 2024 as a transformative year for sports in the state, mentioning the return of the Utah Royals and the launch of the Utah Hockey Club.

The ceremony also marked the 25th anniversary of the Utah Sports Commission, with president and CEO Jeff Robbins emphasizing the organization’s role in shaping Utah’s sports industry. Special guest Andy Reid, head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs and a former BYU player and coach, spoke at the event. Utah Olympians and Paralympians from the Paris 2024 Summer Games were also recognized.

Batten had an exceptional 2024 season, winning Olympic silver in mountain biking and claiming multiple other victories. Vinecki also had a standout year, winning several World Cups in women’s aerials. The event also honored other athletes and teams in various categories, including the Utah Archers, BYU coach Diljeet Taylor, and Real Salt Lake’s Diego Luna.
