The Utah Hockey Club secured an impressive 4-1 victory over the NHL-leading Winnipeg Jets on Saturday night. Clayton Keller and Barrett Hayton both contributed a goal and an assist, while Kevin Stenlund and Nick Bjugstad also found the back of the net for Utah. Goalie Karel Vejmelka made 32 saves to earn his third win in four games.
Keller opened the scoring with a power-play goal in the first period, followed by another power-play goal from Hayton early in the second period. Stenlund extended the lead with a goal late in the second period. Although Mark Scheifele got the Jets on the scoreboard with a power-play goal in the third period, Bjugstad sealed the win with an empty-netter.
The Jets, who have been on a strong run with only four losses in their last 12 games, remain at the top of the Central Division and one point ahead of the Washington Capitals in the Presidents’ Trophy race. On the other hand, Utah is seven points behind the Minnesota Wild for the second wild card spot in the Western Conference.
Scheifele’s goal also marked a milestone for him as he reached 800 points in his career, trailing only Blake Wheeler in the franchise list. The Jets will face the St. Louis Blues next, while Utah will take on the Seattle Kraken in their upcoming games.
