The Silver Fire ignites in central California and rapidly grows to 1,000 acres in 24 hours

A vegetation fire dubbed the Silver Fire erupted in central California, spreading to 1,000 acres and prompting evacuations in multiple counties. The blaze started in Inyo County near Highway 6 and Silver Canyon Road, leading to evacuation orders for Laws in Inyo County, Chalfant in Mono County, and the White Mountain Estates neighborhoods. Strong winds reaching up to 35 mph fueled the fire, making containment efforts challenging and grounding firefighting aircraft. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, with an evacuation center set up at Bishop Senior Center. The National Weather Service issued a high wind warning for central California, with southwest winds of 25 to 35 mph and gusts up to 65 mph forecasted. In South Carolina, dangerous fires continue to burn, with the Table Rock Fire spanning nearly 11,000 acres and remaining at 9% containment. The Persimmon Ridge Fire has burned over 2,000 acres and is at 24% containment, leading to mandatory evacuations in Greenville County. These fires are fueled by dry vegetation and downed timber left in the wake of Hurricane Helene. Despite this, state officials are expected to lift a statewide burn ban for most counties in South Carolina.
