Investigation underway into destructive fire at Republican headquarters in New Mexico

Federal authorities are investigating a fire that damaged the headquarters of the Republican Party of New Mexico in Albuquerque. “Incendiary materials” were recovered at the scene, leading to concerns of domestic terrorism. Similar attacks on property associated with Elon Musk’s electric-car company, Tesla, have been reported across the U.S. and overseas.

The fire, which occurred early Sunday morning, caused significant damage to the building’s entrance and extensive smoke damage throughout the office. Fortunately, no injuries were reported as the building was unoccupied at the time. The blaze was quickly extinguished by firefighters.

The Albuquerque mayor condemned the arson as a cowardly act, and urged anyone with information to come forward. The New Mexico Republican Party Chair praised firefighters for their swift response and credited the security system for detecting the fire. Additionally, spray paint reading “ICE=KKK” was found on the side of the building, adding to concerns about politically motivated crimes.

Local authorities are working with federal agencies, including the ATF and FBI, to investigate the incident. While details about the materials used in the fire and the motive behind the attack are still unclear, the authorities are taking the incident seriously and actively seeking leads.
