Billionaire businessman David Blitzer is in talks to sell a stake in both Real Salt Lake of MLS and the Utah Royals of NWSL after owning both since 2022. The Larry H. Miller family is set to take over a controlling stake, with Blitzer retaining ownership. The potential purchase price has not been disclosed. The Miller family, former owners of the NBA’s Utah Jazz, had expressed interest in buying Real Salt Lake when Blitzer acquired it from Dell Loy Hansen. Hansen had been accused of racist behavior, prompting the sale. Blitzer reportedly paid $400 million for Real Salt Lake, including Rio Tinto Stadium, the training facility, MLS Next Pro team, and rights for the NWSL club. The Utah Royals declined to comment on the potential sale. The Miller family’s takeover would bring their sports ownership portfolio full circle. The deal is still pending finalization.
