Utah woman converts old blue bus into mobile shelter to provide warmth for the homeless

Kseniya Kniazeva, a Russian native living in Utah, has a diverse background in finance and charity work. In 2020, she faced poverty herself but rebounded by founding The Nomad Alliance, a charitable organization that helps Utah’s homeless population in a unique way through “The Warming Bus.” This innovative initiative involves parking a big blue bus at various locations in the city, where homeless individuals can seek shelter, warmth, food, and blankets. Former homeless volunteers assist Kseniya in running the bus, such as Brandy, who credits Kseniya and the bus with saving her life and helping her find temporary housing. Kseniya’s ultimate goal is for The Nomad Alliance to become a nationwide model for assisting the homeless, with hundreds of buses providing aid to those in need at a lower cost than traditional shelters. She hopes to upgrade to a decommissioned UTA bus in the future to accommodate more individuals during Utah’s harsh winter weather.
