YSU Introduces Innovative Technology Workforce Accelerator

Youngstown State University’s STEM Workforce Education and Innovation has revamped and broadened its IT Workforce Accelerator into the Advanced Technology Workforce Accelerator (ATWA). With the rise of Industry 4.0, the demand for skilled workers in cybersecurity, 5G-enabled IoT, and automation systems is at an all-time high. The ATWA aims to bridge these skill gaps and prepare individuals for the future of work by offering integrated training programs, industry-driven curriculum, and clear career pathways.

The key pillars of the ATWA include integrated training programs covering IT fundamentals, OT processes, and advanced wireless systems, industry-driven curriculum developed in collaboration with industry associations, pathways to opportunity through bootcamps and certifications, as well as innovation and collaboration to anticipate future industry demands. The initiative also focuses on community and economic impact, bridged workforce initiatives, and continued collaborative partnerships with industry organizations.

Lindsey Ekstrand, the director of workforce education programs at YSU, describes the ATWA as a workforce transformation initiative that aims to keep Ohio at the forefront of digital infrastructure and Industry 4.0. The program is designed to prepare workers for high-demand careers that drive economic growth and technological advancement. YSU’s ATWA will continue to work closely with industry leaders, regional employers, and state workforce initiatives to develop programs that align with emerging technology trends and labor market demands.
