Capture6, a company specializing in transforming waste brine into freshwater and capturing carbon, recently completed a $27.5 million Series A funding round led by Tetrad Corp. The funding round also included support from Hyundai, Energy Capital Ventures, and Elemental Impact. CEO Ethan Cohen-Cole highlighted the urgent need for solutions to address water scarcity and climate change, emphasizing the environmentally beneficial nature of Capture6’s technology.
The Capture6 system integrates seamlessly with existing water infrastructure, offering a more energy-efficient and cost-effective solution compared to traditional methods of water treatment. The company recently partnered with Palmdale Water District in California, eliminating brine ponds and reducing lifetime costs by 40%. The move is seen as a step towards achieving a more sustainable water supply for Southern California residents while contributing to the state’s goal of carbon neutrality by 2045.
Tetrad Corp. spokesperson Aaron Hilkemann praised Capture6’s business benefits, pointing out the potential for cost reductions and environmental benefits in industries facing wastewater disposal and freshwater acquisition challenges. Elemental Impact’s VP of Portfolio, Danya Hakeem, also commended Capture6’s tangible results in addressing fresh water scarcity.
Vic Pascucci, Managing Partner at Energy Capital Ventures, highlighted Capture6’s industry leadership in direct air capture and fresh water production, calling the company a true game-changer in carbon removal and water security. The funding round also included support from other investors, such as Hyundai Motor Group’s ZER01NE Ventures and the Jacob S Shapiro Foundation. Capture6’s innovative technology and strategic partnerships position the company as a key player in the environmental sustainability space.
