Makenna Smith of the Utah Red Rocks gymnastics team recently earned her second Gymnast of the Week award from the Big 12 after an impressive performance against Big Ten opponent Washington. Smith scored a 39.600 in the all-around event, helping the Red Rocks secure a victory with a total score of 197.225 – 195.875. She contributed significantly on bars (9.850) and beam (9.875), and also took home event victories in vault (9.950) and floor (9.925). Overall, Smith has accumulated 18 wins this season, including five wins in the all-around, vault, and floor categories.
Smith’s outstanding performance has also earned her top national rankings, currently sitting at No. 9 in the country in the all-around event, No. 6 on vault, tied for 19 on beam, and tied for No. 12 on the floor. Fans can come out and celebrate Smith and the rest of the Utah Red Rocks’ departing senior class at their upcoming meet against the UCLA Bruins on Saturday, Mar. 15 at 7 p.m. MT at the Huntsman Center for Senior Night With the Stars.
