Evacuation Warnings Issued for Wildfire-Affected Areas in Los Angeles Ahead of Heavy Rainfall

The Los Angeles Fire Department issued evacuation warnings for residents in areas affected by recent wildfires due to heavy rain and mudslide risks expected later in the week. The Palisades and Eaton fires burned thousands of acres and structures in January, making the areas especially susceptible to mudslides. The LAFD warned of the extreme danger of debris flows during rainstorms, as fast-moving water and debris can create life-threatening situations. Sierra Madre Fire Chief Brent Bartlett advised that if a mudflow occurs, emergency crews may not be able to reach those who stay behind for days. Residents were urged to sign up for emergency alerts, listen to local media, create emergency plans, and restock supplies in case of floods, mudslides, or storm damage. The warnings will be in effect until Thursday evening. The Palisades and Eaton fires, fueled by strong Santa Ana winds, killed at least 29 people and were fully contained on January 31 after more than three weeks.
