The Columbia Police Department will be hosting two community feedback meetings on Monday to discuss renewing and upgrading its Axon technology package. The meetings will take place at the Molly Thomas Bowden Neighborhood Policing Center and Columbia City Hall Conference Rooms, with representatives from Axon present to explain the technology and its benefits.
The CPD has been using Axon technology since 2005, including Tasers, body worn cameras, and evidence management systems. The meetings will focus on newer additions to the technology package, such as in-car cameras with automatic license plate recognition, to ensure responsible use.
Community members are encouraged to attend and provide feedback on the technology, as well as ask questions about its implementation and policies. The goal is to gather input from the public on how the technology is being utilized and what improvements can be made.
With a commitment to promoting civil and constructive conversation, ABC 17 News is providing a platform for community members to share their thoughts and ideas on the CPD’s use of technology. Those interested in participating in the discussion can attend one of the meetings or submit a story idea through the provided link.
