A recent study commissioned by Nissan and conducted by Economist Impact reveals that 57% of young city residents are willing to change their travel habits to reduce their carbon footprint. The survey, which targeted future mobility choices of young urban dwellers across 15 global cities, found that the majority of respondents prefer electric vehicles as a sustainable solution.
The study indicates that the ownership of electric vehicles is expected to rise from 23% to over 35% in the next decade, with enthusiasm for EVs strongest in emerging cities. Factors such as battery performance, charging infrastructure, and costs play a significant role in shaping the adoption of electric vehicles.
Young urbanites also show a strong interest in innovations such as energy storage, alternative fuels, and vehicle-to-everything energy transfer. Nissan’s corporate vice president of global communications, Lavanya Wadgaonkar, emphasizes the importance of making EV adoption seamless, practical, and cost-effective for long-term success.
The survey reflects the growing demand for electrification and the need for creating more awareness about sustainable mobility options. Despite current challenges, more than one-third of respondents expect to use a personally owned electric vehicle within a decade, highlighting the optimistic outlook for EV adoption in the coming years. Nissan aims to leverage data-driven research and innovation to ensure that electrification becomes a core component of the future mobility landscape.
