Red Rocks Boost NQS at Washington with No. 5 Defeat

The fifth-ranked Red Rocks from the University of Utah emerged victorious against the Washington Huskies with a score of 197.225-195.875, improving their National Qualifying Score. Head coach Carly Dockendorf expressed some disappointment in the team’s performance, hoping for a higher road score. Despite this, she acknowledged exceptional efforts from athletes such as Avery Neff, Jaylene Gilstrap, Makenna Smith, and Grace McCallum.

The Red Rocks excelled on bars, vault, floor, and beam, with standout performances from individual gymnasts contributing to the team’s success. Makenna Smith took first in the all-around competition, with Grace McCallum in second and Avery Neff in third, marking Neff’s return to the all-around since an injury in January.

Looking ahead, Dockendorf emphasized the need for the team to bring the required energy level in their upcoming competition against No. 4 UCLA on Senior Night With The Stars at the Huntsman Center. The team aims to build on their recent performances and continue progressing toward the postseason.
