Considerable Avalanche Danger Present Throughout Utah on March 9th

After a series of early-March snowstorms, the Utah Avalanche Center has issued a considerable avalanche danger rating for all regions following reports of natural and human-triggered avalanches. The main avalanche problem in Salt Lake, Uintas, Provo, Skyline, and Moab regions is persistent weak layers, which have resulted in fatalities this season. The Provo, Skyline, and Moab regions also list wet snow as a primary avalanche concern.
Avalanche forecasters are warning backcountry users to be cautious and avoid slopes with persistent weak layers, especially during the warmest parts of the day. The UAC website provides information on warning signs and recommends avalanche awareness courses for those heading into the backcountry.
As temperatures warm, the risk of wet snow avalanches increases, with reports of wet avalanches in slopes above Ogden. Residents in Ogden are warned about snow sliding off roofs.
Avalanche conditions are constantly changing, and daily updates can be found on the UAC website for the latest danger ratings and information.
