Running Utes finish regular season with close game against No. 23/22 BYU on Saturday night

The Utah men’s basketball team will close out the 2024-25 regular season this Saturday by facing in-state rival No. 23/22 BYU in the Marriott Center. The game will be broadcasted on ESPNU, with the Runnin’ Utes aiming to sweep the Cougars in the season series.

In a major announcement, former Runnin’ Ute player and Utah Athletics Hall of Famer Alex Jensen has been named the 17th head coach in Utah basketball history. Jensen, who had a successful NBA coaching career with the Utah Jazz and Dallas Mavericks, returns to his alma mater to lead the team.

Jensen was a key player in Utah’s 1998 NCAA Championship run and boasts an impressive college career record. As the regular-season finale approaches, Utah will be looking to secure a conference road win at the Marriott Center, a feat they have not accomplished since 2006.

Historically, Utah has a decent record in season finale games, with a 71-45 record overall. The team has won both overtime games against BYU, but has also suffered losses against a ranked Brigham Young University in the past.

Following the game against BYU, Utah will head to Kansas City for the Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship. The schedule for the championship will be determined after the regular-season concludes. Fans can stay updated on the Runnin’ Utes men’s basketball program by visiting the team’s website or following them on social media.
