Two 13-year-old girls were charged with multiple felonies after seriously injuring another student with a Stanley cup during a fight at a Delaware middle school. The incident occurred at Calvin R. McCullough Middle School in New Castle on Feb. 28. The two girls struck a 13-year-old girl multiple times in the head with the metal cup, causing serious injuries. A 12-year-old boy was also involved in the fight and struck the victim with his hands, resulting in a misdemeanor charge. The victim was taken to the hospital for treatment.
The girls were charged with second-degree assault, second-degree conspiracy, possession of a deadly weapon, and disorderly conduct. The district stated that violence is not condoned, and the students will face disciplinary actions in addition to the criminal charges. Both teenagers turned themselves in and were released on $7,500 bonds.
The Colonial School District is cooperating with authorities and providing support to the families involved in the incident. The students’ actions were condemned, and measures are being taken to address the situation.
