NAACP leader in Utah criticizes Governor Cox for aligning with Trump

Salt Lake City’s NAACP branch president, Jeanetta Williams, has expressed her concerns about the current administration to Governor Spencer Cox in a letter dated last week. In the letter, Williams criticized Cox’s support of President Trump’s agenda, citing his signing of a bill to ban public sector collective bargaining and his immigration policies that harm children and families. She also accused Cox of failing to support Utah’s federal employees and not standing up to the president after layoffs that affected workers in the state. Williams called for dialogue between both sides to address these issues and criticized Cox for not being governor for the entire state.

Other issues mentioned in the letter include the need for a raise in minimum wage to a living wage and the dismantling of diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives, which Williams believes will create barriers for students from different backgrounds.

Despite sending the letter, Williams has not heard back from the governor’s office. FOX 13 News reached out to Governor Cox for comment but has not received a response. It remains to be seen how Cox will address Williams’ concerns and whether he will engage in dialogue to address the issues raised in the letter.
