The Utah baseball team is gearing up for a split four-game weekend in Riverside, California, after a successful 7-1 start to the season. The Utes will play at California Baptist on Friday afternoon and then have a doubleheader on Saturday, starting at UC Riverside before heading across town for a second game at CBU. Sunday will see a rematch at UC Riverside to round out the weekend.
Coming off a strong weekend at the Tony Gwynn Legacy series, where they shut out San Diego State and walked off Seattle in a comeback victory, the Utes are looking to continue their success. Utah boasts a team batting average of .308 and leads the Big 12 Conference in doubles with 25 so far this season. On the mound, the pitching staff has an impressive ERA of 2.50.
Right-handed pitcher Colter McAnelly earned Big 12 Pitcher of the Week for his performance, while right fielder Kaden Carpenter and shortstop Core Jackson have also been standout players for the Utes. Utah started the season with a four-game road sweep of Pepperdine.
Now members of the Big 12 Conference, Utah is looking to build on their success from last season, where they tied the second-most wins in program history. Despite being projected 10th in the Pac-12 Preseason poll, Utah entered the D1Baseball.com top 25 in late April. The Utes have a strong history in conference championships and will be seeking to continue their winning streak as they face California Baptist and UC Riverside this weekend.
