Utah County appointees join Steering Committee for 2034 Olympics | News, Sports, Jobs


The University of Utah’s Rice-Eccles Stadium is ready to showcase Salt Lake City’s bid for the 2034 Winter Olympics as International Olympic Committee members prepare to tour the venue and others in the city. A steering committee has been announced to provide guidance to the organizing committee for the 2034 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. The committee includes athletes, community leaders, and elected officials from Utah County. Executive Chair Fraser Bullock highlighted the importance of the steering committee in ensuring the success of the games.

Two-time Olympic champion Ted Ligety and other athletes with Utah ties have been named to the steering committee. Various committees will also be impaneled to provide expertise in specific areas, such as the Athletes’ Commission and the Host Communities Committee. These committees will work to ensure a positive athlete experience and build a strong legacy of sport across Utah and the nation.

The Sport and Venues Committee, led by Utah Olympic Legacy Foundation President Colin Hilton, will focus on aligning all venues for the games. The Technology and Innovation Committee, led by technology leader Matthew Prince, will bring expertise and contacts to support the organizing committee. Chairs of the committees will now begin populating them, with additional committees expected to be created over time.

The organizing committee board and steering committee are set to hold their first meeting soon, with other committees following suit after all members have been appointed. The goal is to ensure a successful and memorable 2034 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City.
