Rudy Giuliani has “fully satisfied” a judgment against him after falsely accusing two former Georgia election workers, Ruby Freeman and her daughter Wandrea “Shaye” Moss, of election fraud. A federal court filing confirmed that Giuliani reached a settlement agreement with the women in January after a jury awarded them $146 million in damages in December 2023. Giuliani was found to have defamed the women by baselessly accusing them of fraud following the 2020 presidential election that Trump lost.
The women faced death threats and harassment from Trump supporters as a result of Giuliani’s false statements. Both Freeman and Moss expressed feeling unsafe, with Moss stating that the lies affected every aspect of her life. A federal judge ruled in August 2023 that Giuliani had defamed the women.
Giuliani failed to comply with court orders surrounding the judgment, leading to a contempt of court finding in January. Interest and attorneys fees were also listed in the court filing related to the judgment.
The settlement agreement between Giuliani and the women was reached in January, with Freeman and Moss expressing relief after a “living nightmare” that lasted four years. They had fought to clear their names, restore their reputations, and prove that they had done nothing wrong. Giuliani did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the matter.
