Utah’s impressive history of hosting major sports events is set to continue as the state gears up to potentially host the 2034 Winter Olympic Games. With experienced operators and venues that have hosted over 1,100 sports events since 2002, including elite level winter sports competitions, Utah is well equipped to handle the prestigious event.
The Utah Sports Commission has played a crucial role in supporting the hosting of these events, showcasing the region’s capabilities to handle large-scale sports competitions. In fact, over 175 elite level winter sports competitions, such as world cups and championships, have been successfully hosted in Utah.
One of the key advantages of Utah as a potential host for the 2034 Games is the existing infrastructure in place. No new sports facilities, transportation systems, or accommodations will be required, as the Games will be hosted in 100% existing or temporary venues. Ten of these venues were actually used in the 2002 Winter Olympics, highlighting Utah’s ability to repurpose and adapt existing facilities for major events.
The Utah Olympic Legacy Foundation manages three 2002 venues that will be used once again in 2034: Soldier Hollow, Utah Olympic Park, and the Utah Olympic Oval. These venues have already proven their capabilities in hosting high-profile events and will no doubt play a crucial role in ensuring the success of the 2034 Winter Olympic Games in Utah. Stay tuned for updates on Utah’s bid to host the 2034 Winter Olympics!
