New Utah Civil Air Patrol Squadron Honors 466th Fighter Squadron

The 419th Fighter Wing, Operations and Maintenance Groups attended the activation ceremony of the first Civil Air Patrol (CAP) Utah Wing Squadron in seven years. The new Diamondback Cadet squadron honored the U.S. Air Force Reserve 466th Fighter Squadron, 419th Fighter Wing, by adopting their logo of the Diamondback viper. The event took place at the Utah Military Academy, Camp Williams Campus, Lehi, Utah, on January 9, 2025.

During the ceremony, Col. Ronald Sloma emphasized the importance of connecting with the local community and future generations. Col. Andreas Wesemann, CAP Utah Wing commander, highlighted the core values of the CAP while encouraging the cadets to rise above and represent something greater than themselves.

The new squadron, comprised of 11 outstanding cadets, aims to prepare young individuals for various opportunities and career paths after school. The leaders from the 419th Fighter Wing and 466th Fighter Squadron see this as a way to help young men and women make informed decisions about service in the military, Air Force, or Air Force Reserve.

The ceremony marks a significant milestone in fostering relationships between the military and the community, providing mentorship and guidance to future leaders in the defense and aerospace industries.
