Powderhorn Ski Area on the Grand Mesa has recently announced the sale of a majority interest to Utah-based ski operator Pacific Group Resorts (PRGI). PRGI has been managing the ski area since 2018 and is known for operating multiple resorts across the country and Canada.
The Gart family, who originally acquired Powderhorn in 2011, are now in talks to develop starter slopeside ski homes starting at $150,000 on the 800 acres of land they own adjacent to the resort. PRGI plans to expand snowmaking capabilities and replace the west-end double chairlift built in 1972.
The goal of PRGI is to keep Powderhorn affordable for visitors while investing in new infrastructure and potential lodging opportunities. The transfer of ownership marks a new chapter for the historic ski area and signals potential growth and development in the future.
