Utah Man Arrested for Allegedly Threatening to Shoot Up NYC Synagogues
A 23-year-old man from Utah, Luis Ramirez, was arrested by Port Authority police in New Jersey as he tried to enter Manhattan via the Lincoln Tunnel on Friday night. Ramirez had allegedly made a series of antisemitic threats on social media, including threatening to shoot up New York City synagogues. The threats were flagged by the UJA’s Community Security Initiative, who worked with law enforcement to notify synagogues across the city.
Ramirez, who was found to be in possession of a firearm during a stop in Kansas City, had no weapons in his car when he was arrested outside the Lincoln Tunnel. He is currently being held at the Hudson County Correctional Center and is expected to be arraigned on Saturday.
No charges have been filed yet as the investigation is ongoing. The NYPD and Port Authority police were able to apprehend Ramirez before he was able to carry out any violent acts in New York City.
