Small Southern Utah Town’s Police Chief Admits to Striking Pedestrian

Kanab City Police Chief Thomas Chad Cram has pleaded guilty to hitting a pedestrian last year in an incident that occurred in southern Utah. The 62-year-old chief was charged with an infraction for failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk after allegedly hitting and injuring a pedestrian while turning left at an intersection. The victim suffered moderate to serious injuries and was taken to the hospital.

Cram entered a guilty plea (under “plea in abeyance”) last week, which was accepted by prosecutors on Monday. The proposed sentence includes a 3-month period of unsupervised probation, a $155 fee, and adherence to all laws. Cram has been the chief of the Kanab City Police Department since 2014.

The incident was investigated by the Utah Highway Patrol, who reported that Cram had turned into the sun and did not see the pedestrian crossing. This development has raised concerns about pedestrian safety and the responsibilities of drivers on the road. The sentencing for Chief Cram is pending.
