Factors such as lifestyle, mental health, and the environment can heighten the risk of developing cancer.

The Bharath Hospital and Institute of Oncology recently marked World Cancer Day with an awareness rally organized in collaboration with the Rotaract Club of Teresian College. Dr. Raxith Sringeri, a Surgical Oncologist and Robotic Surgeon at BHIO, emphasized the need for a holistic approach to fighting cancer, focusing on physical fitness, mental well-being, and environmental protection. He highlighted the link between lifestyle factors such as diet, exercise, and mental health, and the risk of developing cancer. Dr. Sringeri stressed the importance of maintaining a balanced diet, regular physical activity, and a healthy weight to reduce the risk of cancer. He also emphasized the role of mental health in cancer prevention, noting the benefits of practices like mindfulness, yoga, and meditation. Additionally, Dr. Sringeri raised concerns about air pollution as a leading cause of lung cancer, even among non-smokers. The rally, attended by over 500 Teresian College students, passed through several key locations before concluding at Teresian College. Shiva Prasad, faculty coordinator of the Rotaract Club, and Principal S.R. Rohini of Teresian College were among those present at the event. The initiative aimed to raise awareness about the various factors contributing to cancer and promote preventive measures to reduce the risk of the disease in the community.
