Welton sponsors bill to increase glass recycling in Utah
Welton is sponsoring HB177, a bill that aims to increase glass recycling in Utah. The bill requires the Utah Division of Waste Management and Radiation Control to conduct a study on how to improve glass recycling in the state. This includes identifying current glass recycling methods, determining areas that could benefit from more glass recycling, and exploring the possibility of increasing curbside recycling and glass drop off locations. The study is expected to be completed by September.
Glass is 100% recyclable and can be recycled endlessly without any impact on quality. Increased glass recycling can help reduce waste in landfills, create jobs, and provide a low-cost alternative for construction materials. Welton highlighted the importance of keeping glass out of landfills and supporting a circular economy.
The bill has passed out of the House Natural Resources, Agriculture, and Environment Committee with unanimous approval and will now go before the entire House for a vote. This initiative could have a significant impact on the state’s efforts to promote recycling and sustainability.
