Caleb Lohner’s Unconventional Journey From Football to Basketball at the University of Utah
Caleb Lohner’s journey to the University of Utah’s Runnin’ Utes program has been anything but conventional. The Texas native initially committed to BYU for basketball, spent two seasons there, and then transferred to Baylor to play two more seasons before deciding to switch gears and try his hand at football, playing as a tight end for the Utah Utes.
Lohner made an immediate impact on the football field, appearing in 12 games and recording four touchdown catches in his first and only season playing football. After the football season ended, Lohner transitioned back to basketball, where he has been a key player for the Runnin’ Utes.
Despite not spending any time with the basketball team in the offseason, Lohner has been a valuable player, bringing energy and skill to the court. His experience playing high school basketball at Wasatch Academy prepared him well for the collegiate level, where he has excelled in both scoring and defense.
Lohner’s unique journey from basketball to football and back to basketball has been a success, with him proving himself as a versatile athlete capable of excelling in multiple sports. His dedication, work ethic, and love for the game have made him a valuable asset to the Runnin’ Utes program.
Utah fans can catch Lohner and the Runnin’ Utes in action as they face off against Colorado on Feb. 5 at the Jon M. Huntsman Center. It’s sure to be an exciting matchup between two former Pac-12 foes.
