Utah mother killed in her home honored with candlelight vigils

Family and friends gathered in Roy to remember Heather Ann Barela, a Utah mother of seven who was tragically shot and killed in her home by a juvenile family member. The community came together in Santa Clara and Roy for two vigils to honor Barela’s memory. Jennifer Chacon, Barela’s sister, spoke at the vigil and remembered her as a bright light in the world with a unique ability to connect with everyone. Barela and her husband have two biological sons and have also adopted five foster children.

The family is devastated by their loss, and loved ones are remembering Barela as a loving mother and wife. A GoFundMe page has been set up to help her husband with funeral costs and to support their children. Aurora, Barela’s niece, expressed her love for her aunt and her cousins, while Chacon emphasized the need for prayers and support during this difficult time. The community is mourning the loss of a beloved member and coming together to support the grieving family.
