Local Latino business leaders in Utah organized a “Day Without Immigrants” to show support for communities impacted by recent political changes. Jesus Perez and Fernando Felix, owners of Prime Auto Inc. and Jurassic Tacos respectively, shared words of encouragement with those feeling fearful in light of the current directives targeting immigrants in the state.
While recognizing the financial impact of closing their businesses for the day, Perez and Felix emphasized the importance of immigrants to Utah’s economy and the community. They want to dispel the negative stereotypes surrounding immigrants and show that they are hard-working, law-abiding individuals contributing positively to society.
The event aimed to challenge the fear and unease felt by many immigrants in the community and encourage them to continue living their lives normally. In solidarity with their fellow immigrant community members, these business leaders hope to send a message of support and unity during a time of uncertainty.
