FBI agents who investigated Capitol riots to disclose their names to Trump DOJ officials

FBI executives considered resisting a Justice Department demand for the names of FBI personnel involved in Capitol riot cases but ultimately complied with the order. This decision prompted protests from various groups, including the FBI Agents Association and the Society of Retired Special Agents. Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee demanded answers from Trump Administration officials about the recent firings and reassignments of senior officials in both the Justice Department and the FBI.

The Democrats raised concerns about a potential mass purge of FBI agents who worked on Capitol riot investigations and criticized the Trump administration’s personnel actions as a threat to national security. However, they lack the power to enforce their document requests or block the confirmation of Kash Patel as FBI director. Republicans on the committee, including Chairman Charles Grassley, have remained silent on the issue.

Meanwhile, multiple federal prosecutors involved in Jan. 6 cases were fired and returned to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia to collect their belongings. Acting U.S. Attorney Ed Martin, who was present at the Capitol during the riot, declined to answer questions. The fired prosecutors were on probationary status and were not accused of wrongdoing, but their dismissal letters referenced Trump’s executive order pardoning Capitol attackers. This has raised concerns about political influence in the handling of the Capitol riot cases.
