Utah skijoring event combats warm weather with firetrucks and snow machines

Despite an unusually dry winter in Utah, the founders of Utah’s skijoring competition are determined to make the event happen. Skijoring involves a skier being towed behind a horse at high speeds on a snow-packed track. However, with no snow in sight, the organizers have taken matters into their own hands by purchasing snow guns and even a firetruck to help with snowmaking efforts.

The team has been working tirelessly, blowing snow around the clock to create a perfect track for the event set to take place in Heber next weekend. With the help of snow guns from Sundance Resort and their newly acquired firetruck, the team is optimistic that they will be able to provide enough snow for the competition to proceed as planned.

Despite the challenges posed by the weather, the event organizers are dedicated to ensuring that the Utah skijoring competition goes ahead. KUTV’s Kristen Kenney will be providing a closer look at the sport of skijoring and the skills required to compete at high speeds behind a galloping horse.
