The Utah gymnastics team put up a strong performance in a tri-meet at West Virginia, falling just short of second-ranked Florida. Senior Grace McCallum placed second in the all-around with a 39.575, tying her season high on three events. Junior Makenna Smith tied for the vault win with a 9.95, matching her career high for the second time this season. Head coach Carly Dockendorf was pleased with the team’s performance, especially considering the long road trip. Utah’s second-highest score of the season on the road was a positive outcome.
The Red Rocks posted their second-highest score of the season on floor, vault, and beam, finishing with a total of 197.425. McCallum tied her season high on beam with a 9.925, while Padurariu also scored a 9.925 on beam, tying for the event win. The team showed consistency throughout the meet and demonstrated their ability to compete away from home. Utah will return to the Huntsman Center for their next home Big 12 meet against Arizona on February 7.
