Ontario is pulling all American alcohol from its government-run liquor shelves in response to President Donald Trump’s tariffs on Canadian imports. Premier Doug Ford announced that the Liquor Control Board of Ontario will also remove U.S. products from its catalog, preventing retailers from ordering or restocking those items. The move comes after Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau imposed retaliatory tariffs on U.S. goods. The LCBO is one of the largest wholesalers of alcohol in Ontario, selling over 1.1 billion liters of alcohol products in 2023. Canada primarily imports hard liquor from America, with an estimated $320 million in sales. LCBO will stop all sales of U.S. alcohol products online and in stores indefinitely. Other Canadian provinces, including Nova Scotia and British Columbia, have also announced similar actions in response to the tariffs. This decision aims to support Ontario-made and Canadian-made products.
