Search in progress following plane and helicopter crash near DCA – NBC4 Washington


An American Airlines flight and a military helicopter collided and crashed into the Potomac River near Reagan National Airport Wednesday night. The airliner had 64 people aboard, while the helicopter had three people on board. More than a dozen bodies have been recovered from the crash, with a frantic search ongoing for any remaining victims. Emergency response teams, including fireboats in the water and multiple fire departments, are on the scene. The FAA confirmed that a PSA Airlines Bombardier CRJ700 regional jet collided with a Sikorsky H-60 helicopter while on approach to the airport. Reagan National Airport is expected to remain closed until at least 11 a.m. Thursday.
