Decrease in crime attributed to new technology by Chadbourn Police Chief

Crime in the town of Chadbourn, North Carolina dropped by 17.9% from 2023 to 2024, according to numbers from the Chadbourn Police Department. Chief of Police Kenneth Elliott credits the decrease in crime to new technology, specifically Flock gunshot detection devices. These devices help officers respond to crimes faster, with officers being notified within 60 seconds of a gunshot being detected and given its location. Chief Elliott also attributes the drop in crime to the use of Flock license plate readers since 2022, which has given the department more access to downtown cameras and enabled them to build relationships with local businesses. The Chief hopes to further enhance security by adding more surveillance cameras in parks and recreational areas, emphasizing that surveillance is crucial for identifying suspects and establishing timelines for events. While certain crimes like larceny and drug equipment violations saw a slight increase, Chief Elliott is committed to improving community relations and providing additional training for officers in the new year. He stresses the importance of community involvement in solving and preventing crimes, encouraging citizens to speak up if they see something suspicious. By establishing better relationships with the community and other law enforcement agencies, Chief Elliott aims to continue reducing crime rates in Chadbourn.
