Utah Football Head Coach Kyle Whittingham to Return for 21st Season in 2025
After a disappointing 5-7 season, questions arose about the future of Utah head coach Kyle Whittingham. However, the program announced that Whittingham will be returning for his 21st season in 2025 with a simple message: “I’m back.” Despite a challenging season marred by injuries and a seven-game losing streak, Whittingham, who recently turned 65, expressed his commitment to the program and his belief that there is still plenty left in the tank.
With defensive coordinator Morgan Scalley poised to take over as head coach whenever Whittingham decides to retire, the focus now turns to improving the struggling offense. Following the resignation of offensive coordinator Andy Ludwig midseason, Utah has hired New Mexico offensive coordinator Jason Beck to reshape the offense that ranked among the worst in power-conference football in passing.
As the team awaits a decision from quarterback Cam Rising on his future, the quarterback room has also seen some turnover with three quarterbacks entering the transfer portal. Beck will have his work cut out for him as he looks to recruit new quarterbacks to compete for the starting job in 2025.
Whittingham’s return for another season provides stability for the program as they look to bounce back from a challenging year and compete in the Big 12 Conference. Fans can expect to see new faces on the coaching staff and potentially at the quarterback position as Utah prepares for the upcoming season.
