Utah Woman Establishes ‘CommonThread’ Nonprofit to Assist Foster Care Teens

Rachell Garrett, a licensed foster parent and advocate in Utah, has founded the nonprofit CommonThread to support teens in the foster care system. Recognizing the challenges faced by vulnerable youth, Garrett offers trauma-informed care and organizes events for teens aged 12-18 to provide a sense of belonging and hope. CommonThread has hosted over 130 events funded by the community, not government aid, to create a supportive environment for teens in need. A key aspect of CommonThread is empowering the teens themselves, with a 15-member teen board that influences the organization’s impact and supports their peers. One of the board members, 15-year-old Freedom, has benefitted from CommonThread and encourages others to get involved. Garrett and the teens involved in CommonThread are dedicated to changing lives for the better and are seeking donations and volunteers during the holiday season.
