Meta’s Threads is drawing in millions of disillusioned X users, reports PrestigeOnline Hong Kong.

Threads, the social media platform owned by Meta Group, has seen a surge in new users since November 1, with 35 million users signing up. This growth can be attributed to many users leaving X (formerly Twitter) due to various reasons such as racism, misogyny, misinformation, and hate speech. In addition, Bluesky, a platform created by Twitter’s co-founder Jack Dorsey, has also experienced significant growth with over 20 million users.

While Bluesky and Threads continue to attract users, Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri revealed that Threads has welcomed over 15 million new accounts since the beginning of November. According to Meta spokesperson Andy Stone, Threads has been gaining around one million new users daily for the past three months. As of October 31, Threads had 275 million monthly active users, showing a significant increase from 175 million in July.

On the other hand, X, owned by Elon Musk, has not disclosed official user numbers but is believed to have over 570 million monthly active users worldwide. The competition between these platforms is heating up as users seek alternative social media platforms to avoid the issues that have plagued X.

The rapid growth of Threads and Bluesky reflects a larger trend of users looking for alternative social media platforms in response to the current landscape of online discourse. It will be interesting to see how these platforms continue to evolve and compete in the social media market.
