Four students at the Utah Arts Academy have achieved success in the prestigious YoungArts competition, showcasing their talent as award-winning artists. Sadie Barrowes, Emerson Williams, Melanie Petersen, and Roxie Sparling emerged victorious out of 11,000 high school student entries from across the United States. Roxie and Emerson received the coveted “award with distinction,” with only 150 students nationwide earning this honor.
Roxie impressed the judges with her powerful vocal performances of songs by Demi Lovato, Melt, and Celine Dion. Similarly, Emerson’s folksy original songs earned her recognition in the songwriting category. Both students are now preparing to travel to Miami for a weeklong mentorship experience with industry professionals.
Principal Drew Williams expressed pride in his students’ accomplishments, highlighting the talent and dedication found at the Utah Arts Academy. As a small school, this achievement is especially significant, showcasing the dedication and hard work of both students and teachers. The YoungArts competition provides these young artists with a platform to connect with professionals in the artistic industry, furthering their careers and artistic development.
