LAS VEGAS – In a stunning upset, the Utah Hockey Club defeated the Vegas Golden Knights 6-0 on Saturday night. Nick Schmaltz scored twice, with goals also coming from Clayton Keller, Alexander Kerfoot, Logan Cooley, and Michael Carcone. Jaxson Stauber made 29 saves in his first start for Utah, delivering the team’s first shutout of the season.
The loss marked the 28th time Vegas has been shut out in franchise history, but only the second time they have lost 6-0. The Golden Knights were unable to recover after allowing three goals in the first 10 minutes of the game. Goaltender Ilya Samsonov made 22 saves for Vegas, who will look to bounce back when they host Edmonton on Tuesday night.
Stauber’s stellar performance in net for Utah earned him his first shutout in his career. The team will now prepare to face Dallas on Monday night. After a disappointing loss, Vegas will aim to regroup and put on a better showing in their upcoming match against Edmonton.
