Six people were rescued from the rubble of a Missouri home that exploded in Jefferson City. The explosion resulted in moderate to severe injuries for all six individuals, who were taken to University Hospital in Columbia, Missouri. Some of the victims were treated for smoke inhalation, while others were in critical condition and required extensive life support procedures. The ages and genders of the victims were not immediately available.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene early in the morning after a report of an explosion. The home had collapsed, and the rescue operation was challenging due to the extensive structural collapse and significant debris. The Special Operations Rescue Team was called in to assist in pulling the victims from the rubble. Rescuers had to tunnel through multiple layers of debris to reach the victims, which took over three hours.
Two pets were also rescued from the rubble and turned over to animal control authorities. The cause of the explosion is under investigation. The Jefferson City Fire Department credited the equipment and training of their personnel for the successful rescue operation. Jefferson City is the state capital of Missouri, located about 133 miles west of St. Louis. The patients were all taken to the trauma center at University Hospital, and there was no further update on their conditions at the time of the report.
