Florida Power & Light (FPL) is wrapping up the 2024 hurricane season with a positive outlook, thanks to recent changes and growth that helped customers during the challenging season. The utility giant reported that their smart grid technology helped avoid a staggering 824,000 outages. Underground power lines were also found to be 5-14 times more effective than overhead lines in preventing outages.

President and CEO Armando Pimentel expressed pride in the company’s response to the challenging hurricane season, emphasizing the team’s quick and effective actions to restore power to communities.
Looking ahead, FPL remains committed to building a stronger, smarter, and more storm-resilient electric grid. Pimentel assured customers that the company will continue its year-round approach to enhance its infrastructure and prepare for future storms. As hurricane season comes to a close, FPL is focused on being ready for whatever challenges may come in the future.
