President-elect Donald Trump announced on Truth Social that he intends to nominate Charles Kushner, a real estate developer and the father of his son-in-law Jared Kushner, as ambassador to France. Trump praised Kushner’s business acumen, philanthropy, and deal-making skills, stating that he will be a strong advocate for the country’s interests. Kushner was previously pardoned by Trump in 2020.
Trump also mentioned Jared Kushner in the announcement, highlighting his work in the White House on Operation Warp Speed, Criminal Justice Reform, and the Abraham Accords. Trump expressed his intention to strengthen America’s partnership with France, one of the country’s oldest allies.
Charles Kushner was sentenced to two years in prison in 2005 after pleading guilty to tax evasion, witness tampering, and making illegal campaign donations. He was prosecuted by Chris Christie, who later became the governor of New Jersey and a political opponent of Trump. Christie called the Kushner case one of the most loathsome crimes he prosecuted.
In 2020, Trump issued a pardon to Charles Kushner, among other pardons, after losing his re-election bid. The announcement of Charles Kushner’s nomination as ambassador to France comes as Trump seeks to strengthen diplomatic ties and alliances with key allies.
