After the ceasefire, Lebanese civilians come back to devastated homes and cities

The ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah has brought both relief and devastation to the people of Lebanon. Many who were displaced during the conflict are now returning to their homes, only to find them destroyed or heavily damaged. While some, like Imad Komayha, are lucky enough to still have their homes standing, others like Elham Ezzeldine face hefty repair costs and uncertainty about the future.

The conflict has taken a heavy toll on Lebanon, with almost 3,500 people killed and an estimated $8.5 billion in physical and economic losses. The ceasefire may be a sign of progress, but it does not address the ongoing war in Gaza, where hunger and desperation are growing.

Despite the destruction, many, like Ali Alamine, are grateful to have survived with only material losses. The devastation is still painful to witness, but there is hope that they can eventually rebuild their lives and have a sense of normalcy once again. The people of Lebanon are resilient, but the scars of this conflict will likely linger for a long time to come.
