Utah Department of Transportation gears up roads for increased precipitation

Winter is approaching in Utah, bringing with it the possibility of inclement weather that can make traveling dangerous. As a preview of what’s to come, northern Utah experienced a brief storm this week which affected travel on I-15 and in Bountiful. After the havoc wreaked by the winter of 2022-2023, Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) has been diligently working on road safety measures. UDOT received six million dollars annually for lane striping projects, allowing them to replace striping on major highways such as I-15, Sardine Canyon, and several others in Salt Lake, Tooele, Summit, and Davis counties. The new “tiger tail” striping, a tape embedded into the road with traditional white and black markings, enhances visibility for drivers. While the severity of this winter season’s weather remains uncertain, UDOT advises drivers to proceed with caution, stay attentive, and ensure their vehicles are well-maintained to ensure safe travel.
